• Privacy and Confidentiality

    Members of this practice are registered Master of Social Workers (MSW) and, as such, are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers –the body that regulates the practice of social work in this province. In addition, practice members may be connected with the Ontario Association of Social Work (the professional association for social workers in this province).

    Services provided at this practice include: case management and advocacy, counselling, psychotherapy, individual, couples, family and group therapy. Please feel free to ask your therapist any questions you have about our privacy policy or their areas of practice.

    Prior to your first appointment at Willow Grove we will request your informed consent for the services we provide. This means that before you consent, we want you to understand the services we hope to provide you with and what we do with the personal information we obtain about you. If you have questions about your practitioner, the types of therapy they offer or any information regarding their practice, please ask.

    Nature of Services

    The services we provide include: individual, family, couples and group counselling/facilitation, case management and advocacy.

    Practitioners at Willow Grove operate from a very transparent position and your work with them will be collaborative.  You have the right to ask for information about your counselling at any time and we encourage you to do so.

    There can be many benefits to counselling/psychotherapy though it can also be difficult process that leads to opening up emotional pain. This can disrupt your relationships and possibly your daily activities and we encourage you to discuss any concerns you might have as we ‘walk alongside you’ in your journey to recovery.

    Crisis Services

    As psychotherapists in private practice we are unfortunately unable to provide crisis response. If you require immediate support please contact your local crisis services, dial 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.

    The Mental Health Crisis Line for Grey Bruce is 1-877-470-5200.

    Office Hours

    Office hours are therapist specific, meaning that each of us holds our own office hours, and we will discuss our office hours with you during your free consultation or first session.

    Willow Grove is a virtual clinic offering phone or video sessions. Several of our practitioners provide in person sessions on Saugeen First Nation and out of the Owen Sound Probation and Parole Office for Native Identifying clients who reside on Saugeen First Nation or were referred to us by their Probation or Parole Officer. In addition, 

    Miranda Rylance MSW, RSW offers free (paid through NIHB) in-person (on Saugeen First Nation only) and virtual services for persons with Status so please inquire with her if you are eligible for this service. 

    Fees and Cancellations

    Willow Grove our pracitioner’s fees for psychotherapy/counselling range from $140.00 to $190.00 for one hour of therapy and should be made payable to Willow Grove Counselling – Centre For Transformation.

    Payments are due at the beginning of each session and can be made via etransfer to [email protected] or securely through Jane App via credit card.  If you are hoping to pay for our services using your insurance benefits please be sure that you have coverage to see a social worker.

    Approximately 50 minutes of each hour long session will be spent in “talk” time with the last 10 minutes devoted to note-taking, scheduling next appointments, and sending receipts for payment.

    Confidentiality 

    As counsellors/psychotherapists, we have an ethical responsibility to protect your confidentiality. Confidentiality  is sacred to the therapeutic process thus, any information that you disclose is confidential (with some exceptions – please see below). 

    If we deem it to be in your best interest, we may, from time-to-time speak with a supervisor, consult within our team, or seek supervision from other mental-health professionals. With respect to any colleague with whom we consult, we will do our due diligence to minimize identifying information during those consults.

    Please note that any consultation or supervision we may engage in is for the sole purpose of ensuring that the services we provide you with are adequate and reasonable. It is important for you to know that those with whom we seek supervision or consultation about your case are bound by the same confidentiality and consent guidelines outlined herein. Aside from the above, we will not share any information you share with us, with others, without your express written consent to do so.

    We believe in transparency with you and, as such, want you to know that you can have access to your files or any written information we have about you. If you would like access to your files please request them from your therapist and they will be made available to you once you  have signed a consent to release form.

    Your records will not be accessed by anyone who does not have direct permission from you to do so. If this arrangement poses any concerns for you, please let us know.

    Exceptions to Confidentiality

    The exceptions to this confidentiality policy, as deemed by our governing body (the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or OCSWSSW) are as follows:

    • Should we have concern that a child under the age of 16 has been, or is, at risk of neglect or abuse, we are obligated by law to contact the appropriate authorities.

    • Should we have concern that you are at risk for suicide or that you seriously threaten the safety of others, we are obligated to disclose information to those who would help ensure safety.

    • Should reports of our work be subpoenaed by a court of law, we are required to release the records to the court. However, we will do everything in our power to protect your records from being released.

    • Should you advise us of abuse by a health-care provider who is a member of a regulated profession, we are obligated to report that health-care provider’s name to his/her College. We will not reveal your name unless we receive written permission from you to do so.

    • Should we have concern that an elderly person is at risk of harm or abuse we are obligated by law to contact the appropriate bodies.

    • If you are availing of extended health coverage for social work services it is likely that you, the client, signed a release with your insurer to authorize that company to verify submitted claims with us.   However, no information will be released to your insurer by us without your express written consent and, should your insurer require such verification, any information to be released will be discussed with you in prior to sharing information with your insurer.
